email: info@plavi-andeo.hr and send us your CV with the description of what led you to apply for the voluntary work in Africa, so we can start organizing your trip and cut the long correspondence. The Blue Angel centre wishes to enable an unforgettable life experience that will change the way of thinking and a world view to everyone who wish so. The centre is registered and founded as the Humanitary and voluntary work centre, the first one of a kind in these areas, with the goal of, besides the collection of funds and helping the children in Africa, designing the programs and projects for the african and other countries and helping all of the future voluntary workers that didn't have any idea where to refer to, but have within themselves humanitarian motivation, to fulfill their dreams. Lots of individuals in Croatia are interested in going for a voluntary work to the african countries, yet no one until now didn't organize it in this way. We wish to make it possible through the means of cultural exchange. We theach them, and they theach us about their culture (the language, dance, drumming...). By doing it, we contribute to the community and a better world, and to the voluntary workers it is one interesting, unforgettable and unique life experience.
We also wish to alert that the people that are not led by the humanitary motifs, but the tourist ones, are not suitable for going to Africa and are not yet ready for such a large step. One of the conditions is also and active english language knowledge.
So, our voluntary workers are situated in the local community, hang with the local people, school teachers, drive with the local busses (or the "buda-buda's") and wish to improve the living conditions of the socially endangered local population and the children in the villages of Bugambe and in the other parts of Jijna and Buikiva. Those people really need us, not only our financial help, but to be with them, provide them with the knowledge, love and hope. Some of the poorest villages of Uganda are located in Bugambe, in the eastern part, near the city Jinja, near the largest lake Victoria and the spring of the river Nile.
It is necessary to know at least 3 months prior to departure when you would like to go and inform us so you can get involved in the organization's activities and get prepared for the voluntary work. All of you that are near Zagreb or the surroundings, fell free to attend our presentations and film screenings in the libraries and get to know the project better. The meetings of the organization are on Mondays from 17-19 on Jarun lake.
"In this life, it is not necessary to do a big deeds, but the small ones with a lot of love". M.Theresa
Uganda is the state in eastern Africa that boarders with the southern Sudan, on the east with Kenya, on the south with Tanzania, on the south-west with Ruanda, and on the west with Kongo. It is known as a "pearl" of Africa because of it's many national parks and lakes. It was a Great Britain's colony for a long time, until the 1962 when it gained independence. The official languages are swahili and english, and the majority of people are of bantu ethnic group. It has a population of cca. 21 million, and is the most famous for it's natural beauties: lake Victoria, the source of the river Nile, and many other great lakes. The capital is Kampala, and the major religion is Christianity, which of around 40% consists of catholics. The climate is diverse, conditioned by geographical varieties and elevations, so in the lover regions, the climate is mostly equatorial, in the mountains subtropical and continental, while some peaks are covered with snow.
The economy is mostly based on agriculture, where the main culture is coffee as the main exporting good. Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world, where around 40% of population lives with only 1.25$ a day. During the 1980-ies, it was heaviliy affected by the HIV virus, with around 30% of total population infected!, but by the 2006., it was decreased to around 6%. Regardless of those positive statistics, the life expectancy of the male and female population is approximately 50 years, due to a poor social standard and hunger. The number of illiterate people is still high, and the local church communities are trying to improve that.
