Many guests from Croatian cultural and social circles gathered at a charitable evening on April 11 in the restaurant Gastro-Globus at the Zagreb Fair for the purpose of encouraging Ivan Tomić on his road to recovery. Singers Mate Bulić, Marko Pecotić and sisters Krstanović contributed to the pleasant atmosphere of the evening. A few songs were sung by Ivan’s classmates, who stayed with him until the end of the evening, showing support.
Ivan Tomić is a 16-year-old high school student. When it comes to his interests he is much the same as his peers. But there is an obstacle in the way of his wishes and ambitions - his poor health. His everyday life is considerably difficult since, as a consequence of the damage he suffered during his premature birth, he walks in a crouch and has to go to kinesiotherapy three times a week to relieve his pain. Croatian doctors didn’t see any chance of recovery or even improvement of his condition, but Ivan’s family never even thought about quitting. After he went through therapy in the therapy center in Ashau in Germany, it was ascertained that an operation would be possible which would enable Ivan to walk straight and which would improve the quality of his life. However, the operation costs 40,000 euros, an amount which is unattainable for the Tomić family because the father is the only one who is employed since Ivan’s mother had to quit her job so she could take care of her son. Therefore they turned to us for help and Blue Angel association set up a donation phone line.
